2:55 am update…

October 26, 2010

Lucy’s line was successfully placed and with no complications.  They tried to place it first on her right leg but that was not working so they moved it over to her left leg, near her groin area.  Drew and I have tremendous peace knowing that we no longer need to worry about her not having a point of access.

Lucy came out of anesthesia better than anyone expected and she is sleeping like a baby, I kid you not!   She even got a salon hair due included with her central line placement since she has not had it washed in about a week, how’s that for service.

Your thoughts and prayers are so very much appreciated!

I worried and prayed all night. Glad it went well and now she can get a little strength back and get up to fighting power. Give her a hug from me.

Glad you got a PICC. Also, it's great that you got it in the PICU -- they do that a lot and it's so much better than going to the OR.

Try to relax -- the more you destress the calmer Lucy will be and her body will be able to heal. :)

I am so sorry that youa re dealing with all of this! We had a very very similar episode with Eithene when she was just about Lucy's age- lost all peripheral access during a gut shut-down, blood sugars crashed (for about 8 hours she was around 30!), and she ended up in the ICU getting an emergent femoral cut down to have a line placed. After that we ended up on a month of TPN while trying to get weight on her and get her gut to function... I'm praying that Lucy perks up and does well with the line!

Eithene has now been on 100% TPN since she was 33 months old, and we have a double lumen broviac. If you decide to place a more permanent line or to start TPN and have any questions, let me know! We have experience with PICCs, Femoral lines, and broviacs (single and double lumen)!

Praying for all of you!

Jessica
